Extracurricular involvement Free Essay Example, 1250 words

We capped our year with a second Rolio Gala performance. I am now in my Senior year and I am lucky enough to have been elected president of the dance club. As the official leader of the group, I have made it my duty to insure that our dance club shall never be behind the times in terms of dance moves and music. I have done this by insuring that our group gets to view the latest and most innovative dance tutorial and workshop videos. An effort which has resulted in a record attendance of dance club members during our regular club meetings. Amazingly enough, I managed to find a pocket of time during my already busy high school life to find time to become involved with our school orchestra as well and no, this was not on a part time basis. I was involved with out music club full time starting from my Freshman year. Contrary to popular belief, a school orchestra demands serious commitment from its members. Rehearsals sometimes ran longer than the allotted 3 hours and I had to keep my grades up in order to continue participating in the orchestra. It was not a pretty sight and I barely had time to breath but my uncanny time management abilities helped see me through the rough spots of that period in my high school life. Being the soloist of the group over the past 4 years I did my best to encourage and coordinate my band mates into playing with as much confidence as we could muster as a group. Sometimes this meant having to demonstrate my flawlessly rehearsed parts to my section in order to help them feel the emotions of the music they are playing. For all my efforts, I was awarded the title of Best Musician at my school in 2010. By 2011, I was an active Kiwanis Music Festival participant and for the year 2012, I have been invited to be their violin soloist in a string quartet. Since I am also a member of the music council, I have been tasked with writing program notes, creating promo videos for our event and potential music students. In a way I became the de-facto leader of the string division of our school orchestra. I have always been a person who takes the initiative in anything that I do. Which is why I was always an hour early for concerts and set ups, but I was also the last to leave in o rder to help clean up. Thanks to my leadership of the school dance club, I was able to lead the members of the string division in our practice sessions in such a way that my leadership of the group always ended becoming a team effort in the long run.
